Highline Welcomes the World Week is a vibrant celebration of global perspectives and international collaboration, brought to life by the Global Initiative Leadership Team. This annual event creates a platform for students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage in meaningful discussions and explore the richness of diverse cultures and global experiences.
Highlights from 2024’s Event:
- International Student Experiences
Attendees had the unique opportunity to hear from five international students from various countries, sharing their journeys of living and studying at Highline College. This session celebrated the diverse cultural perspectives that enrich our campus community. - Update on Asylees at Riverton Park Methodist Church
This session offered insights into the refuge provided by Riverton Park Methodist Church to over 300 asylum seekers. Participants learned about the ongoing efforts, heard updates on the situation, and discovered ways to support this important cause. - Guest Speaker: Sarah Peterson, “Refugee Resettlement in Washington State”
Sarah Peterson, Chief of the Office of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance for Washington State, delivered an insightful talk on how Washington is addressing the needs of displaced people. Attendees gained valuable knowledge about the challenges and opportunities in refugee resettlement efforts.
